The MIFF is an annual film festival hosted in Miami, Florida and is attended by several hundred fans from across the world through means of air travel via Miami International Airport. Entering its fourth decade, Miami International Film Festival gets bigger and better! The Festival Director, JaieLaplante who took over the reins of the festival in the year 2011 is all set to make the event larger than what it is and add a lot of new things that would result to some fond memories over the coming years.
From local filmmakers to people around the world, everyone is super excited about the event and MIFF 31 had set the trend by embracing the local film talent and giving them their due importance as well. This year, at the Miami International Film Festival, 92 feature films and 28 short films from across 38 countries were shown, out of which there were nearly 49 premieres.
The Knight Grand Jury Prize was given to A Wolf at the Door (O lobo atrás da port) which was directed by Fernando Coimbra (Brazil) whereas the Grand Jury Best Performance was given to Nora Navas for We all want what’s best for her (Tots volem el millor per a ella) (Spain). On the other hand the Papi Shorts Grand Jury Award for Best Short Film was won by A Big Deal directed by Yoyo Yao (China). Amongst all others, To Kill a Man (Matar a un hombre) directed by Alejandro Fernandez Almendras (Chile/France) won the Miami Future Cinema Critics Award and the Reel Music Video Art Competition, presented by MTV Latin America and Tr3s was taken away by “Around the Lake” (“Autour Du Lac”) directed by NoémieMarsily& Carl Roosens, music performed by Carl et les hommes-boîtes (Belgium).
MIFF aims at bringing together best cinema from world over to bridge an understanding as well as encourage artistic development and excellence. From Demi Moora to Chris Cooper, Catherine Keenar, Geraldine Chaplin, Helen Hunt, Kate Hudson, Javier Camara, Anne Hathaway and many more have walked the red carpet during the MIFF over the years. And from here, MIFF plans to grow wider and continue to strive to achieve a lot more in terms of bringing together and celebrating world class cinema.
